Team Leader – Tornagrain Nr Inverness Airport

JOB TITLE:  Team Leader

REPORTS TO: CEO

LOCATIONS:  Tornagrain (by Inverness airport)

Closing Date: Mon 2nd March

Salary: £29,000 pa

Summary:  A Team Leader to lead and develop the Stramash outdoor nursery team at Tornagrain, by Inverness airport.  Full time 40hrs per week.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. To lead and manage the nursery and its team in a largely outdoor setting, and in line with the vision, mission and values set out on our website – www.stramash.org.uk.
  2. To promote a high-quality ELC environment for every child, and to ensure parents and all major stakeholders are well engaged throughout.  
  3. To take responsibility for the effective business management of the nursery, ensuring record-keeping is timely, well-organised and accurate.  To work with the CEO and Finance Manager on producing and using monthly management accounts covering the nursery’s operational and financial performance.
  4. To promote and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the team and ensure the nursery’s continued readiness for successful future inspections from the Care Inspectorate and/or Education Scotland.   
  5. To contribute to the training and support of the team’s Modern Apprentice and (if appropriate) to undertake some assessments and independent verification of Stramash’s overall cohort of 3 MAs. 
  6. To prioritise your team’s CPD as well as your own. 
  7. To participate in Stramash’s Leaders Team which meets each month, and to contribute to Stramash’s strategic priorities and wider corporate life. 

Person Specification:

Experience:

1. Substantial experience of working with Early Years children and their parents 

2. Experience of managing and developing people 

3. Experience of planning and implementing stimulating and productive Early Years play and learning experiences, with the child at the centre 

4. Experience of working with children in an outdoor setting, including primary and secondary age 

5. Experience of managing budgets 

6. Experience of delivering training and CPD 

7. Experience of working with stakeholders, partners and volunteers 

Knowledge:

1. Very good working knowledge of the early level within the Curriculum for Excellence 

2. Excellent knowledge of outdoor learning, including the underpinning history, ethos and processes, and how it can be used to facilitate the development of children and young people 

3. Knowledge of leadership and management techniques and practices 

4. Knowledge of the processes and procedures involved in inspections of Early Years and outdoor learning settings 

Skills & Competencies: 

1. Be familiar and effective in planning and assessing within the Early Years setting including ITMP

2. Excellent communication skills 

3. Ability to represent the Stramash in a professional manner and to build positive relationships with people 

4. Ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with other team members 

5. Can evaluate and justify the approaches taken in successfully developing children and young people in the desired outcomes in the Curriculum for Excellence 

6. Ability to teach others (colleagues and peers) and to deliver that teaching in an engaging and stimulating way

1. Adaptable and enthusiastic team player and can work on own initiative as well as under supervision 

2. A passion for using the outdoors to develop the whole person and enjoys being outdoors 

3. Have a sense of fun and adventure 

Skills

1. Has a desire for continual personal growth & able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to the aims of Stramash 

2. Computer literate 

3. Demonstrate a willingness and ability to accept responsibility and become involved in all aspects of Stramash life 

3. Registered, or eligible to register, with either SSSC or GTCS and able to provide membership of the PVG Scheme

Senior Practitioner – Elgin

Job Title – Senior Practitioner

Reports to – Team Leader

Location – Elgin

Closing date – Mon 2nd March

Salary – £22,000 pa

Job Purpose: To deliver high quality early learning and childcare through the outdoors and to support the Team Leader in the running of Stramash services in the Elgin and Moray/Highlands area. To assist the Team Leader in ensuring that the provision is of the highest quality and that the service continues to develop and grow, meeting both local and national needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Support the Team Leader in the running of the Elgin operations. Take on responsibilities delegated by the Team Leader. Be responsible for the services, site and staff in the absence of the Team Leader.

2. Deliver hands-on quality early learning and childcare (ages 2 to 5), holiday programmes (ages 2 to 7) and family work, modelling good practise to the Stramash team while undertaking the delivery, taking opportunities to train and teach colleagues as appropriate.

3. Take specific responsibility for a group of children, ensuring they have access to and participate in, high quality early years provision.

4. Promote a happy, caring and welcoming atmosphere for children, parents, staff, volunteers and visitors.

5. Implement all Stramash policies and procedures.

6. Work in partnership with parents, staff and other professionals.

7. Provide effective and regular feedback to parents.

8. Record and report on the work, progress and development of the children, including daily recording. Maintain portfolios, files and records, ensuring they are always up to date and accurate.

9. Plan quality activities and sessions, when appropriate in line with the Early Stage within the Curriculum for Excellence, ensuring that the children’s developmental needs are central. Lead planning as delegated by the Team Leader.

10. Contribute to and lead parts of the on-going development of the work including the development of the outdoor site, and continue to develop the ethos of outdoor learning in all the work of the team.

11. Actively and fully participate in self-assessment and review processes, leading areas as directed by the Team Leader. Work with the Team Leader to prepare for inspections and visits.
